Galitcha

Drive down Spring Mill Road in tony Lower Merion. Pass modern McMansions. Keep going until you are sure this can"t be the right way and you"ll see a sign for the Riverbend Environmental Center. Park in a rustic hillside lot, pause on the bridge to gaze into the stream rushing back to the Schuylkill, then climb the hill to a handsome old barn converted into an educational center. (Handicapped? Call ahead for access to the limited parking by the barn.) It"s a magical space, perfect for acoustic or lightly amplified concerts. Galitcha, a trio from Ottawa, will be right at home in that wood-walled, soaring-ceilinged hall. Galitcha blends Indian music, from Bollywood film songs to Punjabi folk, with Celtic melodies and a touch of jazz worked in. Expect flute, harmonium, guitar and traditional percussion in an ethereal blend just right for the space.
