Sparrow

"When I am President, the revolution will come and we will all be in it, even the Rich." These are the words of a revolutionary poet known as Sparrow, from his book, Republican Like Me: A Diary of My Presidential Campaign, in which he documents his attempt to beat Bob Dole for the 1996 Republican nomination for U.S. president. For over 25 years, Sparrow has been making a name for himself in poetry with numerous articles in the Letters section of The New York Press. When this poet is not puttering in politics, practicing yoga and being an active member of the radical group Refuse & Resist, he is inventing mathemetrics, a new poetic form that he defines as "poetry which concerns itself entirely with the actual length of each line." This full-time poet laureate of comic relief will be reading from his newest publication, Yes, You Are a Revolutionary!, along with some selected commentaries from his seven other books. Sparrow's 30 minutes of madness will be followed by a book signing, reception and open mic. The comic genius Sparrow is guaranteed to bring laughs to the study of life's logistics. Best not to let this show fly by.

Sparrow, Fri., April 25, 7:30 p.m., $4-$6, Walt Whitman Arts Center, Second and Cooper sts., Rutgers University, Camden, N.J., 856-964-8300.
