April 24-30, 2003 beat box With half-hour sets and a strong emphasis on Philly hip-hop, DJs Jeff Mills, Woody Wood, Sat-One and the Ill Vibe Collective (plus a bundle of surprises) will put thy booty in motion at the Phillyhiphop.com Awards Party. They don’t call Philly the home of the DJ for nothing! Everybody from Promoter of the Year to Lyricist of the Year will be in the house when the second annual Phillyhiphop.com Awards delivers honors in over 30 categories. Thu., April 24, 9 p.m.-2 a.m., $5 with Philly sports gear on your back, $7, Silk City, Fifth and Spring Garden sts., 215-592-8838. In a market flooded with new parties and new promoters, there's a whole lot of "here today, gone tomorrow" going on. Enter Payday Friday, a night hosting some of the same ol' faces with a nice little twist: This is a party! Yeah, Adam 12 and DJ Panek, Bad News (Uncle T and Digs Darklighter), Reef the Lost Cauze and the Ill Vibe Collective (them again!) will rock the mic and decks, yet it's the dancefloor taking center stage. They'll all kick it for a minute, but Payday is all about getting your back up off the wall. Fri., April 25, 10 p.m.-2 a.m., $5, women free before 11 p.m., La Tazza, 108 Chestnut St., 215-922-7322. It's been a long time and Blue Funk shouldn't have left you. Well, it's OK; they're reloaded with the official kick-off jam for a new season of funkified jamming. Who's on the bill? We have no idea but it's R&B, hip-hop, spoken word, fashion, comedy and more! Sat., April 26, 10 p.m.-3 a.m., $10 before midnight, 118 S. 36th St., www.comekleenproductions.com. Or hit La Tazza again for Black Maverick’s Rappers Delight, a night of MC’ing from Side Effect and Viro the Virus with DJ Shorty Blak on the ones and twos. P.O.G.’s Aul Purpis plays host. Sat., April 26, 10 p.m.-2 a.m., $7, La Tazza.
