April 3- 9, 2003 artpicks Paradise City Arts FestivalPeople always seem to be looking for that unique item that will give their cramped studio personality or spice up their bare living room. They might just be able to find what they are looking for at the Paradise City Arts Festival, which is making its first-ever stop in Philadelphia. Think of it as IKEA for people with more than $50. The show features a wide variety of quirky yet functional items, including teapots with fanciful handles and glass mosaic tables. One designer features a steel chess table with built-in cube seats -- perhaps not the best idea in ergonomics, but at least it looks cool. If hand-knit clothing is your thing, many designers will be featuring unique items at the show. Besides furniture, clothing and other useful things, many artists will simply be selling, well, art. April is Art Glass Month, and all manner of glassware is being featured, from bowls to purely decorative handblown items. A silent art auction will be held to benefit the Rowan Breast Cancer Center at the University of Pennsylvania. If Swedish furniture stores just aren't satisfying your need for weird stuff, then Paradise City could be the place to be.
