March 13-19, 2003 artpicks Shut Up and Dance 11With its switch in venue and attitude (the Mann, outdoors) 2002's 10th anniversary showing of Shut Up and Dance, the Pennsylvania Ballet dancers' yearly one-night-stand free-for-all benefiting Metropolitan AIDS Neighborhood Nutrition Alliance (MANNA), seemed a marked change in how the Ballet did its benefiting. It was cute; what with all of us under tents in the hot sun, hanging out through long dances. But audiences don"t want to sweat as much as those self-choreographing dancers do. THAT'S WHY WE'RE GIVING THEM THE MONEY. Besides, having the event all the way out at the Mann meant it was harder to keep your buzz going through to the after-party. Lucky for us, the Ballet returns to its home-sweet-home at the Forrest Theatre for Shut Up and Dance 11. As well as being an almost holy place in which to pay respect to those lost to AIDS and give thanks to community service types who daily give their all to provide HIV/AIDS services, the Forrest just has, like Kander and Ebb say throughout Chicago, "that old razzle-dazzle." Along with famed Philadelphia choreographers Heidi Cruz, Francis Veyette, Christine Cox, Matthew Neenan and Meredith Rainey pushing a team of nearly 40 dancers into un-ballet-like things with limbs, and narrators Michaela Majoun and Carlota Ttendant doing their John-Facenda-at-Fashion-Week best, Fringe fave Brian Sanders will provide interspersing "interludes" and unusual segues. All that and you"ll still get to help MANNA provide more than 50,000 meals a month to those who need it most. So shut up and give already. Shut Up and Dance 11, Sat., March 15, 8 p.m., $40-$75 (includes after-party at 2-4 Club), Forrest Theatre, 1114 Walnut St., 215-49-MANNA.
