January 16-22, 2003 mixpicks Sixers vs. BucksWhat's three feet tall, has a gravelly voice, an unlimited supply of sarcastic comments, loves to snack on cats and is reddish-brown and furry all over? It's ALF, silly! Yes, ALF (short for Alien Life Form), who crash-landed on Earth from planet Melmac 15 years ago, is back in the saddle as part of the 76ers' latest giveaway. Be one of the first 5,000 fans (adults included) to enter the building and there's no doubt about it; the 8-inch, Sixers jersey-wearing plush ALF is yours. When did this enticing NBA freebie trend start anyway? It kicked into high gear with the infamous Bobble Head dolls. Then last year the Sixers stepped up their promotional game with the extremely popular Allen Iverson Celebriduck giveaway. Don't dare tarnish the snout-bearing alien's legend by selling his toothy replica on eBay. But wait, ALF isn't the only featured attraction; there's a basketball game to be played! Aww yeah, the rival Milwaukee Bucks are here. Early in the season, Philly downed the Bucks by just two points. Charging back in November, Milwaukee beat the Sixers in OT. It's a little over two months into the season and the Sixers have lost almost as many games as they've won -- but hey, the Bucks have a losing record. Period. On Jan. 17, it's an extraterrestrial tiebreaker as three men Philly loves to hate strut their stuff: Ray Allen, Sam Cassell and coach George Karl. Go Sixers!
