January 2- 8, 2003 theater Take TwoAct II Playhouse is offering two one-night-only performances this week. First up, playwright/actor David Dallas (Barking Dawgs) performs his one-man show, A Gentleman From Mississippi. The show is based on Dallas' experiences as a caretaker for retired U.S. Senator John C. Stennis, who during his term vocally opposed desegregation and supported the censure of Joseph McCarthy. The show has had a unique run -- it's previously been performed before members of the Senate, and on the aircraft carrier that bears Stennis' name. Dallas appeared at Act II in last season's production of Cobb, Lee Blessing's ode to the baseball legend. Dallas performs Gentleman on Friday. The next night, prepare for a definite shift in mood as cabaret mavens Todd Waddington and Doug Anderson present You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet, a collection of comic sketches, power ballads and peppy pop singing. The pair has been working together for over 20 years, and currently teaches a cabaret class for Philadelphians with an urge to take the stage.
