If it ain’t Herb and Ronnie on Friday night, get the funk out of my face. Tritone and Philly Archives’ David Brown celebrate the release of Philly soul-singing legend Herb Johnson’s CD, 1957-2001, Nov. 8, with a live set from Herb and Ronnie Walker, Philly Int’l/Salsoul sensation who released 1966-1973 last year (and wrote Charo’s “Cuchi Cuchi”).… It’s Hot Club night at the Troc, Nov. 9, as they hoist not only a reformed Pure Hell and The Sic Kidz (Tim Comerford, Mike Ferguson and Mick Cancer are recording new material without onetime drummer Ben Vaughn), but King Of Siam, featuring 9th St. Records owner Bob Dickie, whose skittish sounds were de rigeur at David Carroll’s Hot spot. (Carroll’s new hottie, Bar Noir, not only feted habitue/house man Tony Free and departing dancer Taber Thayer this week, he welcomed Schoolly D, spinning in Nov./Dec). Carroll’s old booking buddy Jay Schwartz has been invited (along with D.O.A. director Lech Kowalski) to the first “Gimme Shelter” music film fest in Athens, Greece. The Secret Cinemateer’ll show Nuggets and more.… Bless his heart: After all this archival chatter, Larry Magid (rumored to be moving Electric Factory offices for the fifth time) will spearhead a series of vid-interviews for Phila. Music Alliance with peeps from Philly’s past and present. Clark DeLeon curates/hosts.… Lush Puppy & Ryder throw an ice-storming disco key party Nov. 8 at Silk City with live electro from Adam Goren (the human half of Atom and His Package) and The Persona.… Nicole Cashman has been named the new regional director of FGI.… Philly dogs: Ominous Seapods’ Todd “Marlow” Pasternack and Devin Greenwood (whose new CD Agave Greenhouse I love) -- both in Lo Faber Band -- team to play The Fire Nov. 8.… After getting dissed by L&I, Martin Cugini reopened Filo’s for its third anniversary.… Following his solo Kilroy Khyber show last week, Hector Boyd’s Shawn Kilroy has a Hectoring Nov. 8 at The Balcony and at Silk City Nov. 16 with my fave rancid-Vegas-lounge-hopper Cobraman.… Feud? Both have been doing such since the late ’90s (though Bacon gets more wattage).… WhoWhatWhere: Photog Scott Weiner came to Foo Fighters’ rescue at their MTV2/Factory showcase, shooting last-minute passport photos of Dave Grohl and co. pre-flight to London. Director Sal Mazzotta and star Leo Rossi told me at their The Father, The Son opening night afterparty at Sfizzio that both Chazz Palminteri and Olympia Dukakis would be joining the cast of Mazzotta’s My Cousin Mimmo.
