The Gossip/Yeah Yeah Yeahs

What's a bass anyway, but a clumsy guitar? A four-fat-stringed bellowing monster that tries to make every song end on a low note? Who needs it? Not The Gossip. They've been making a ballsy, bluesy, bass-free racket for years. Singer Beth Ditto (left) does a hot, sweaty Elvis thing on stage, bellowing and shaking and making you feel faint. The Gossip are jumping ship from their scheduled Khyber show to join fellow guitar-drums-singer trio The Yeah Yeah Yeahs at The Trocadero for an evening of strutting, rocking and yelling. The young YYYs themselves are rescheduled from that Sleater-Kinney bill they crapped out on two weeks ago. (Singer Karen O. had bronchitis. She feels bad about it, so S-K ticket stubs knock the price for this show in half.) Since that show, the new YYY EP has arrived. Machine is three more cold, distortion-laden garage rockers, bringing the band's total output (including a compilation appearance) to nine songs. It's lucky for them that they're really good, because this rock 'n' roll revolution is taking for-fricking-ever.

Sat., Nov. 2, 7 p.m., $10 ($5 with Sleater-Kinney stub), with Sugar Town DJs, Trocadero, 1003 Arch St., 215-922-LIVE.
