October 10-16, 2002 mixpicks Swinging On Through
Wow! For a two-legged, teen arachnid superhero, Spider-Man sure does get around. When not swinging across the celluloid to major box office sales, netting a deal with MTV (yes, MTV) for yet another cartoon or appearing with a milk mustache in the "Got Milk" campaign, he somehow still has time for the important stuff (starring in no less then three comic books, being on the cover of Time magazine and having his own NASCAR race car). What's a poor kid with radioactive blood and high face-recognition to do next? Maybe host the MTV awards or date Winona Ryder? While those possibilities are uncertain, the world's most beloved web-head is hitting the road and going on tour. The Spider-Man Live! 2002 U.S. tour promises to be a Vegas-style spectacle with more action, higher production costs and hopefully a kick-ass soundtrack to accent the pyrotechnics. The live show production, much like the movie, centers on Spidey's origin, his relationship with Mary Jane Watson and battling the sinister Green Goblin. Spider-Man Live! should prove that by mixing a cocktail of Broadway, circus and theme park action with stunts and state-of-the-art special effects, the wall-crawler can deliver the goods not only in movies, but in person as well. Hold on tight, true believers. Spider-Man Live!, Oct. 16-20, call for times, $18.50-$29.50, Tweeter Center, Delaware River Waterfront, Camden, N.J., 215-336-2000.
