September 19-25, 2002 mixpicks Think Cubic
Can you hear the previews revving up, gathering force? That's right, folks, the onset of cooler evenings also signifies, more importantly (to some) the brand new fall season of television. The well-furnished folks at Ikea are helping to make your stay in front of the talking head a bit more comfortable by bringing us "Think Cubic," an event where local residents will take their love of the tube to the edge and beyond. The test will be to see whether these brave souls can stay on their chairs or love seats for 10 hours straight, watching Ingrid Bergman movies. That's right: Just Ingrid Bergman movies. This moment of indulgence -- if we can call it that -- is part of the program Ikea has dubbed "couch potato freedom," which promises to cure any furniture-bound channel surfer, exhausting them of their less than glamorous, less than labor-intensive lifestyle. Interested loafers have to bring their favorite chair to one of the Think Cubic mobile units at the corner of 34th and Walnut streets on Sept. 19 and sit in that chair from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. If you can complete the grueling physical challenge, you'll be rewarded with (drum roll) a brand new Ikea Poang chair, footstool and tufted rug, while your old chair will be donated to charity. But don't sit around: Only the first 10 people to arrive no later than 7 a.m. with their furniture to be donated will have a chance to win and those who bring other small furnishings for donation will be rewarded as well. “Think Cubic,” Thu., Sept. 19, 7 a.m.-5 p.m., the corner of Walnut and 34th sts., 212-645-6900 ext.115. -- Respond to this article in our Forums -- click to jump there
