The Frames

After listening to The Frames' For the Birds (Overcoat), one of last year's most intimate, heartbroken collections, you'd expect frontman Glen Hansard to be something of a congenital mope. It's a surprise, then, almost a shock, to find that he's more a dancing fool than flaming wreck. "Wasn't he one of The Commitments?" a friend asked. I scoffed, then went home and looked it up. (Yep, he was Outspan.) Of course, that decreases your chances of hearing a breathtaking song like the whisper-to-a-whisper "What Happens When the Heart Just Stops," but it also reduces the likelihood of your wanting to dive off a bridge after you leave the show.

Tue., Sep. 10, 9 p.m., $12, with the Waxwings and Nad Navillus, The Khyber, 56 S. Second St., 215-238-5888.
