August 29-September 4, 2002 the bell curve City Paper's weekly gauge of Philly's Quality of Life Prosecutors announce they want a jury imported to Philly for Ira Einhorn murder case. Einhorn offers to have one shipped by bulk mail. Even North Carolina woman caught with a loaded pistol in her carry-on bag at Philadelphia International Airport. Security on the scene confiscate it enviously. Plus 1 One of Philly’s first female beat cops promoted to become the city’s first female deputy commissioner. But does she have what it takes to become the first female cop to wet herself outside Finnigan’s Wake? Plus 5 News anchor Rich Noonan files suit claiming he was fired because Fox didn’t want an all-white cast. Also, Bill Wine is required to get a tan and Dawn Stensland has to wear a kimono. Minus 1 The Philadelphia Zoo vaccinates its exotic birds with a vaccine commonly used to prevent the West Nile virus in horses. Someone over there’s been taking hits off the Zoo Balloon. Even Larry Kane reduced to only co-anchoring KYW’s 6 p.m. news show, after losing 11 p.m. solo anchoring job to WPVI’s Marc Howard. Then both were fired to make room for Beverly Williams. Minus 1 Plans to expand the Pennsylvania Convention Center include tearing down a historic fire station on Race Street. And, oh yeah, further encroachment into Chinatown or something. Minus 1 In one day, landscapers find a baby in a trash bag in a South Philly bank parking lot and another baby is pulled from a stroller by a caretaker just before it gets run over in a Frankford police chase. It only took two “miracle baby” stories to get J-Lo and Ben Affleck off the cover of The Daily News. Plus 7 Total pluses: 13 Total minuses: 3 Score for the week: 10 Last week’s score: -5
