Beat Box

And we now present the world famous, and, might I add, Philly’s #1 one-stop hip-hop column, The Beat Box! Tooting our own horn? Yeah, but you know it’s true. And if you don’t think so -- make it so: Send all Beat Box news and events to applesz6@aol.com.

Each and every last Thursday of the month it’s time for a lil’ spoken word with Mouthworx. Paradise Alley, Front St. and Fairmount Ave., 215-413-3900, www.mouthworx.com, 9-11 p.m., $5.

T.G.I.F. This Friday welcomes the inaugural edition of a 14-month-long series of music, poetry and self-expression, The Last Friday Jam Session featuring the Eazebak Parle, headlined by Kenyatta Lemone. Also in the house, special guest poets Bill Holmes and Taj El, speaking their minds in the “Eazebak Parle,” a spoken word and self-expression forum. Feeling creative? Get there early for the open mic. Fri., Aug. 30, The Philadelphia Clef Club, 738 S. Broad St., diaperman_inc@yahoo.com, 8 p.m., $15, $20 day of show. Need more reason to attend? A portion of the proceeds will be given to the “Friends of Freedom Theater Fund.” Vamos!

Last week we let ya in on the big shows hitting the city this fall, so it’s only fitting that this week we drop the bomb announcement: It’s a free, yes, free Roots show for that broke booty! Sept. 21 hosts The Philadelphia College Festival on the Parkway at Eakins Oval. The Roots? In front of the Art Museum? History in the making? A frizzity-free show! Ta-dow!
