It may not look serious from American eyes to use one photograph for advertising something. It's so serious when that picture is the King of Thailand. Although, Thailand is a small country, but big and "civilized heart". Thai people have never condem or look down others. Thai has never ever does anything to the weaker, but never let any foe goes if steps on us even one finger foot. The one who used our king's picture, you blind with opened eyes. I just read an AP article about an advertisement by Saint Jack's restaurant spoofing the king of Thailand. Though I have no problem with your running the ad, I do have a problem with the lack of understanding shown by the restaurant. What if someone were to run an ad of Jesus dressed in a pimp outfit? I think a great many Americans would be a little upset. This doesn't seem much different. I have not seen the ad so maybe my example is a little over the top, but to disrespect the beliefs or culture of a group of people isn't cool. But I guess Ms. Levin doesn't get that.

I think it's kind of hard for American people to understand what Thai people feel about that ads (you know which one I mean). You never have a king (or a king like Thai king), so you would never know or understand the (special) relationship between the real king and his people. Sometimes (or I should say often), in Thai people's mind, this Thai king is even more than their fathers or mathers, more than any religious leaders. When someone is doing something like this ads, it might feel like some islamic people did the same with Jesus portrait (replaced the king by the Jesus). If you can still laugh, I wouldn't have anything to say more.

I don't like angry reactions from some Thai people to you or the owner of the bar (if it's true as stated in the article or news) either. I think we are all well-educated. We shouldn't get emotion involved in the situation like this. We have different lifestyles and ways of thinking. Something which don't seem offensive for you might be really offensive for us. I think we (people involved) should talk peacefully (or even professionally) as well-educated people should do - no threat and no stubbornness, even though this is hard for two groups of people with different points of view.

For you, and Ms.Levin, "I don't understand" seems to be a simple sentence for an excuse, but it shows ignorance. Why don't try harder to think as the other side? If you (and Ms.Levin) stand for this ads, you don't win. Or if you stop the ads, as well, you won't lose. Neither one is higher or more powerful than the other. Why don't find the compromise? I don't think this ads will improve Ms.Levin's business that much, on the other hand, might be worsen it. Why let the small matter (for you guys) become unnecessarily big? I think you guys have started to understand those Thai people (since they said), but it's only your "thought" that you still hold it tight, so you haven't complied with those requests. This thing happens similarly to Thai people. I think they (at least I) understand you, but it's more serious for Thai people, so they can't let it go on (consider the case that I exampled above - islam and Jesus picture for very strict christians).

Let me suggest somethings. You can just stop run this ads without saying anything even talking to those Thai people (this is also to Ms.Levin). Apology, even though it's difficult if you don't have an idea that you were wrong, it helps the situation better. American people have good habit for saying "I'm sorry" already; this is just another one of that sentence. As for Thai people, although I'm not the important man of the country, I would willingly like to say "I am sorry" if some Thai people have threatened or been rude to you (I mean anyone). Also, I would say "Thank you very much" if you consider this email with judgement and stop this trouble. Regards.
