May 9-15, 2002 artpicks Leah Stein Dance Co.
DanceFringe and local dance scene darling Leah Stein is back this weekend with new work and a presentation of her 2001 Fringe Festival hit "Cirque." With music from David Forlano and Toshi Makihara, "Cirque" focuses on the multiple interpretations of the word, from circular movements to images of the circus and more. Stein's company will also present a new piece, "Imprint," inspired by Josey Foo's poetry. Her poetry, Forlano's sound score and Stein's choreography explore urban and rural landscapes. Stein has performed all over the country and at the Edinburgh Fringe, and she often presents site-specific Philadelphia performances (including works in Fairmount Park and at Philadelphia Water Works). Her company includes Roko Kawai, David Konyk, Aryani Manring, Josie Smith and Michelle Tancoco. Fri.-Sun., May 10-12, 8 p.m., $12, Philadelphia Arts Bank, Broad and South sts., 215-438-2623.
