Yep, we're playing catch-up. As we begin to understand the volatile issues of geopolitics, a web of pre-Sept. 11 events and circumstances has been brought to our attention. The potential of nuclear stand-off between Pakistan and India, two nations with a long, difficult history of conflict, should force average Americans to look outside their usual minute worldview in order to get a look at their allies.
On Tuesday, the World Affairs Council will host H.E. Shamshad Ahmad, Pakistan's ambassador to the U.N., to discuss several issues facing the country, as well as its partnership with the U.S. in the war on terrorism.
Taking foreign education one step further by putting his listeners on the political front line, Ahmad exposes the complex issues in Pakistan in order to promote an understanding of a culture and a political structure that most of us are quite removed from. The lecture is in conjunction with the ongoing series held by the Council to enlighten the public about challenging international relations.
