When Bill Wyman was the bass player for the Rolling Stones, for thirty-odd years he was the (even) older one who didn’t dance or smile or move onstage. Since quitting the band in ’93 (a move that would’ve been more shocking if it hadn’t been rumored for, like, ever), Wyman has, true to form, dispensed with the kind of flash that seems to accompany every other Stones-related event, forming the low-key blues outfit Bill Wyman & The Rhythm Kings. Keeping up with his love for the blues, his new book Bill Wyman’s Blues Odyssey: A Journey to the Music’s Heart and Soul (Dorling Kindersley) is a specific kind of personal history: Wyman went to the Deep South to examine and better understand the music that’s been such a driving force for him and other musicians. He’ll discuss the book, and maybe teach you the bass line to "Gimme Shelter," at Borders on Tuesday.
Tue., Sept. 4, 12:30 p.m., Borders, 1727 Walnut St., 215-568-7400.
