Jack Gory Camp Fund
All-around good guy Jack Gory seemed to touch everyone he came in contact with. Shuttling between San Francisco and Philadelphia, Gory was a fixture of the late-80s/early-90s rock scene in bands like Scab Cadillac, Sweet Rum Crooks, Trifecta and Big Mess Orchestra. Sadly, Gory drowned last spring while working at a North California hot spring/spiritual healing community. In his memory, Gorys family set up a fund to send underprivileged children to Cummington, MAs Shire Village the summer camp Gory attended and later worked at as a counselor. Booking guy Bryan Dilworth has helped put together a couple of benefits to supplement the fund. On Thursday, the DJs of 700, including Tracey, Ed, Abby and more, will spin at Silk City, where therell be a $5 cover. On Friday, for a $7 cover, Philly stalwarts Strapping Fieldhands will perform alongside heavy hitters Apollo Creed, bluegrassy She-Haw and former Interpreters drummer/popster Branko. All proceeds, including a passing of the hat at each night, will go to the Jack Gory Camp Fund.
