Andy Smith

Hip-hop and Philly has always been a winning combination. Andy Smith, laid back scratch-master turntablist of Bristol, UK’s melancholy, gut-squeezing live act Portishead and one-half of the new Dynamo Productions duo with Scott Hendy, is back in Philly two years after his blazin’, honeyed set at the Palmer Social Club. Smith keeps it smooth and solidly danceable with a diverse selection of undaground hip-hop, jazzy funk/soul, ’60s R&B, classic breaks, TV theme songs and maybe some old-school rap thrown in for fun. The super-slickster will butter you up and brand your memory with that one old, nostalgic song that you completely forgot about, but you love sooooo much.

Sean O’Neal

Tue., May 29, 10 p.m.-3 a.m., with Scott Hendy, at Transit, 600 Spring Garden St., 215-925-8878, $8.
