Eats-wise back to school usually means stocking up on sandwich bags, jars of peanut butter and jelly and those sad baby carrots but as you might imagine Kevin Sbraga has something a little less brown baggy in mind.
The September Chef's Counter Tasting at Sbraga (440 S. Broad St.) is inspired by cafeteria standards but the Top Chef winner is thinking outside of the lunch lady box. The six course menu features tuna sandwiches, hot dogs, spaghetti and meatballs, ham and cheese, chicken nuggets and ants on a log all reimagined and grown up. Ham and cheese is coming in the form of a croque monsieur and gaufrette potatoes and the ants in the ants on a log are dried grapes on a bed of peanut butter mousse with compressed celery. The tasting menu runs $75 a head plus a $50 optional/extra credit wine pairing. Seats are limited so call 215-735-1913 to reserve your spot.
