We've been hearing talk of a second location from Le Vitru owners Francis Cratil Cretarola and Cathy Lee with chef Joe Cicala for a while now. According to The Insider, it's official. They're going to be heading north on Passyunk and taking over Karina's (1520 E. Passyunk Ave.), some very prime Avenue real estate.
The new venture is going to be called Brigantessa and the menu is going to be a little more all over the boot. Instead of focusing on the cuisine of Abruzzo, the menu at Brigantessa is going a more casual, birreria/enoteca route with a menu of antipasti, panini and pastas and Neapolitan-style pizzas fired in a wood oven.
Chef Joe Cicala and pastry chef Angela Ranalli have just returned from a whirlwind honeymoon/research trip to Italy so the menu at Brigantessa will be full of straight from the old country inspiration.
Karina's is planning to stay open until February and then reopening somewhere in the 'hood. Brigantessa's purposed opening date is mid-summer, 2014.
