Today, Mayor Michael Nutter made an appeal to the public for school supply donations for the cash-strapped school system. Yesterday, however, Michael Nutter also asked his massive donor list to cough up money for his cash-strapped political campaign.
The timing is curious: Which fundraising effort should Nutter's wealthy and powerful backers regard as more important? How much money might donors have pushed toward the district's needy classrooms that will instead be spent on Nutter's $1,000-a-head dinner at PAFA?
In any case, the timing is certainly curious, and perhaps speaks to Nutter's immediate need for political dollars.
