Welp, today is National Root Beer Float Day, meaning that by now you're probably a little sick of root beer floats, the noise of the parades, the sugar headaches and all the chipper demands from cashiers and random passersby to have a great root beer float day. But if you're somehow still in the market for a float, here are a couple of good options:
Percy St. (900 South St.) is giving away their basic floats, made with Yards root beer, for just $3 today. (But if you really want to do the damn thing, they'll spike it with rye or make you a beer float with Oskar Blues Ten Fidy for, well, $10.50.) Perhaps even more of note is that they're reviving their AYCE rib deal, with bottomless root beer-chipotle glazed ribs for $24.
Manayunk's Old Eagle Tavern (177 Markle St.) is just skipping over the root beer entirely in favor of beer floats. The new beer float menu—which gives you the choice of vanilla ice cream with either Lindeman's framboise or Sly Fox Christmas Ale (what) or chocolate ice cream with Lancaster Double Chocolate Milk Stout or Dark Horse Tres Blueberry Stout—normally goes for $6-$10, but today you'll get a dollar off any of them.
Of course, if you want to go classic, every day is root beer float day at Franklin Fountain ($7; 116 Market St.) and Bassett's ($5; Reading Terminal Market).
