A nonprofit event that started as 15 kegs and a few hundred people on a single residential block of Christian Street, Bloktoberfest drew about 15,000 people who kicked 190 kegs last year. And why not, the event combines all the best of South Philly beer, food and music in one community-focused afternoon, with vendors and stages taking over South Street from Broad to 18th. The food? Everything from ice cream weirdos Little Baby’s to vegetarian cheesesteak darlings Govinda’s. The music? Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Alo Brazil, Andrew Lipke and lots more. The beer? A bracelet-base scenario via Bella Cista Beer Distributors. And proceeds go to charities that benefit green spaces and education.
Sat., Oct. 19, noon, free, South Street from Broad to 18th streets, bloktoberfestphilly.com.
