In How Things Work news, the Braiser reports that even though plenty of companies dumped Paula Deen for being a racist, that doesn't mean the Walmarts of the world actually pulled anything off a shelf or risked taking any kind of financial hit over it whatsoever. (A commenter also points out the same thing I've found myself thinking after seeing a few recent promos: Food Network is clearly already trying to walk back their own tepid condemnation, too.) Hooray! The system works*!
(* I am referring, of course, to the system wherein PR people very loudly take principled stands on behalf of corporations while a wholly unfazed market continues to reflect the actual values of the larger society it exists within.)
But hey, capitalism has its perks, too! Like sometimes you get Mentos commercials out of it, which is neat. (via BuzzFeed)
Blow dry your whisks! I don't really have anything to say about this item from Food52, to be honest, but the imagery delights me. This sounds like a fine idea? That I will never actually use?
Serious Eats gives a nod to the Cucina Zapata truck and, more specifically, to their Cap'n Crunch-crusted tilapia. Which is cool, because cereal crust everything, as far as I'm concerned.
